Investors
in People is the National Standard which sets a level of good practice
for training and development of people to achieve business goals.
Developed during 1990 by the National Training Task Force in partnership
with leading national business, personnel, professional and employee
organisations it was supported by the Employment Department. It was
extensively tested during 1991 by Training and Enterprise Councils
(TECs) and Local Enterprise Companies (LECs) and due to the experiences
of the UK's most successful organisations, large and small, representing
all sectors of the UK economy, being very positive, the Standard received
the full endorsement of the wide range of interested parties.
The
Investors in People Standard provides a framework at a national level
for improving business performance and competitiveness. A planned
approach to setting and communicating business objectives and developing
people to meet these objectives allows all this to be acheived. The
result, is that what people can do and are motivated to do, matches
what the organisation needs them to do and these processes are all
a part of a continuous improvement culture.
