COMAH

You're in: Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems > COMAH

A number of industrial sites manufacture, store and use quantities of dangerous substances. Such sites can range from large petrochemical site to chemical storage warehouses.

If released by accident, these substances could have serious effects on site employees and also those living nearby and the surrounding environment.

The Control of Major Accident Hazard Regulations (COMAH) 1999 apply to these types of site. Under COMAH, all operators of sites with dangerous substances above specified quantities have must take measures to prevent major accidents or limit the effects on people and the environment if such an accident were to occur.

IMS (Scotland) Ltd provide a training and consultancy service to examine your site and review your current operations.

This will also allow you along with ourselves, to identify which schedule of the regulations is relevant to your site and produce a Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and a set of procedures to manage and minimise the risks involved in your site operations if your site falls under Schedule 2 of the regulations or a Safety Report with a accident prevention policy and relevant management system if schedule 1 applies.

More details of this type of programme can be obtained from Ian Mathie.
